An activity which will allow your children to make their own horse figurine

Material

A straight branch of green wood with a break in the fibres (acacia, oak, elm). Select a branch which has a 30:1 length to diameter ratio.

Tool

My First Opinel

Instructions

Split the branch at each end up to one third of its length.
Bend (at the break in the fibres) one of the split halves to a right angle and repeat at the other end of the branch.
In turn, split the folded half and open the two pieces to an approximate angle of 30 degrees (to make the horse's legs).
To make the head, split the largest part of the branch into three, raise the ears and lower the muzzle.
